Sing a Song!
One of the joys we share with our ministry friends is learning new things, especially the indigenous languages that offer a huge challenge for us. The indigenous dialects in Mexico are almost exclusively oral, meaning very few read or write in their mother tongue. It’s a real challenge for us as foreigners to learn because our learning has been based on a combination of hearing, speaking, reading and writing in our school system.
On a recent ministry trip Bernabé, one of our leaders graced us with the Hymn, Wonderful Words of Life in his native language, Nahuatl. Here is a video of that presentation:
Vs. 1
Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life,
Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life;
Chorus:
Words of life and beauty teach me faith and duty.
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life,
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.
Vs.2
Christ, the blessèd One,
gives to all wonderful words of life;
Vs.3
Sinner, list to the loving call, wonderful words of life;
All so freely given, wooing us to heaven.
Vs. 4
Sweetly echo the Gospel call, wonderful words of life;
Offer pardon and peace to all, wonderful words of life;
Chorus 2:
Jesus, only Savior, sanctify us forever
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life,
Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life.
I am sitting here crying as I heard him singing in his heart language! Praise the Lord. I experienced this when I was a missionary in Nigeria.
Blessings on you as you minister there in Mexico.
