Returning to Canada

This week we are set to return to Canada. It’s been a long couple of years dealing with Covid and related challenges, but we are on our way!

Oct. 17, 2021 – Carolyn’s Step-dad passed away in Orillia, ON. We received a call late that Sunday saying that his home-care worker found him in the morning unresponsive sitting in his chair, and was then taken by ambulance to the hospital. Later that day the doctors said they figured he wouldn’t make it through the next 24 hours. He passed away that evening. This news came as a bit of a shock to us since Carolyn had just spoken with him earlier that week and he sounded like his normal self. At age 91, he passed away the way he wanted, in his own home until his last day.

After many phone calls, we began making plans to return to Canada. We had already made plans to travel to Houston, TX for a week in order to get vaccinated and have a bit of rest/vacation time. We decided since there was no immediate rush to return to Canada and most immediate details could be arranged for by phone or email, we would keep our plans to go to Houston and that would hopefully make our trip back to Canada go much smoother having been fully vaccinated.

Oct 26, 2021 – We flew to Houston, TX to get fully vaccinated for our trip back to Canada. We have been unable to arrange for a vaccine in Mexico that is accepted by the Canadian government, so we were able to do that and take in a week of vacation too!

Oct 27, 2021 – Vaccination completed!

Nov 3, 2021 – Returned to Mexico to tie up a host of details in order for us to be in Canada for 4 – 6 months. Phil travelled to the mountains the next day to get things in order for being away for that length of time with all the classes. They should have sufficient resources for the next 6 months or so and maintaining contact should be doable to keep up momentum with leaders.

Nov 8, 2021 – Went to a clinic to get a PCR Covid test for our trip, made arrangements for managing things here in our home in Puebla, finished packing up.

Nov 9, 2021 – Received the negative results from Covid test (Yes!!). Travelled to Mexico City for an overnight, ready for our flight the next day.

Nov. 10, 2021 – Flight to Toronto, Canada!

This next couple of months is going to be extremely busy dealing with all the details of the funeral and estate. Please pray for safety, rest, wisdom and strength during these next weeks and months as we have a lot of travel, visiting, and details to deal with. We hope to include some time for our Home Ministry Assignment while in Canada in the New Year. We are grateful that so far, things have been working out smoothly!

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

  1. Carolyn, please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of your Father. So sorry that you couldn’t be with him in person but your were there in spirit. Happy to hear that he was able to stay in his own home where he was surrounded by things he cherished. I know he will be watching over you from above and pray God will be guiding you during the next busy months. Wishing you safe travels.

  2. Hi Carolyn and Phil, I’M over the moon that you are coming home and vaccinated to boot. It means you can visit here if you want and you can stay for a bit too. I’m sure you want to go home first and take it from there. Have a good flight. Love Lynn
