First Week of Language School

Posted on

We started Language School on Monday, Sept 14.

It was a good week of learning. There are 3 of us in our class – Carolyn, Phil and another fellow, Michael. It is a wonderful school and from what we know, it is world renown!  We’ll see how it goes.  So far, so good.  Here’s a little outline of what our day looks like now that we are in school Monday – Friday.

  • 7:30 AM – Drive downtown to the School
  • 8:00 AM – Find parking (there’s usually no parking after 8:15), read, review homework
  • 9:00 AM – Classes begin
  • 11:00 AM – Class Break
  • 1:00 PM – Lunch (Hot Buffet next door, included in our schooling)
  • 2:30 PM – Conversation Class (out and around the downtown area) with conversation helpers
  • 4:30 PM – Drive Home
  • 7:00/8:00 PM – Homework

We usual get home between 5:30/6:00 pm depending on traffic and if we stop for anything. We often drop our dog Bear off at the Chapple’s home so he is not home alone all day. That way, he has another dog to amuse him and 4 boys to greet when they are home from school. Sometimes we chat a little long and so we get home a bit later.

So far, we haven’t had much homework, just some review and some papers to work on. We are supposed to allow 1-2 hours homework each night.

We opted to drive our car to school, mainly because taking the bus is a bit hazardous (we call it “The Vomit Comet!”).  Most buses need suspension/springs or something and the roads are mostly very bumpy. And, it would take 2 buses and two fares each way and much longer to get home!

September 16 was Mexico’s Independence Day!

In celebration of the holiday, we got FREE tickets to go and see the London Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra on Tuesday night at the Metropolitan Centre.  It was wonderful! The conductor for the evening was a Mexican lady.  She was fantastic – so was the orchestra!  It was such a great night out – and so affordable!  Parking was only $40 pesos (about $3.17 CAD).

There were so many celebrations for the holiday and so many fireworks! They really like fireworks here! There is a place here in Cholula that makes fireworks, so they tend to have fireworks frequently – any time of day, day, night or otherwise!  Bear really doesn’t like fireworks!

That’s all for now! Until next time!

Sounds like you are adapting to Mexican culture quite well. We leave for Progreso on Thursday, October 29th. I’ve already started closing the apartment and RV and doing some of the prep work for our journey. Richard can’t wait to arrive

    Great to hear the updates.

    Peggy.
